4 Narrow tatting lace patterns

A narrow tatting lace may be used as a great decoration for clothing. Narrow tatting lace is executed in a chain which is formed out of simple elements. Arches and rings are the main elements from which it is possible to weave a narrow tatting lace. Next, we will present you with some lace patterns . Tatting is performed by two tatting shuttles.

Tatting: lace pattern 1

This very simple pattern is easily carried out with the help of two tatting shuttles.


All of the rings are weaved according to the scheme 5P5P5P5. All of the arches in the pattern are weaved according to the scheme 5P3P5.

The process:

1. Weave ring 1 using any thread, and then flip it over.

2. The thread which comes from ring 1 is a leading one. Let’s weave arc 2 on to it and then flip it over.

3. The thread which comes from arc 2 is a leading one. Let’s weave ring 3 just like we did ring 1.

Next, repeat steps 2 and 3, by following the sequence shown in the scheme.

This simple pattern of the braid could be used for decorating clothes. It is constructed with the help of two tatting shuttles and is made out of rings and arches.

All the rings of the lace are weaved according to the scheme 5P510, and the arches are weaved according to the scheme 8P8. Arches are attached to the upper picot of the ring’s loop, made by a tatting shuttle with the leading thread being pulled through a loop of the same thread.

The process:

1. Weave ring 1 as it is shown in the scheme, and then flip it over.

2. Weave the arc - the thread from ring 1 will be the leading one. Then, attach the arc to the ring with a loop from the leading thread, and then flip it over.

3. Weave ring 3 (the thread from the arc is the leading one) and then flip it over.

Next, repeat this motif as many times as necessary. Keep progressing according to the scheme by following the sequence of weaving.

This one is a very interesting narrow lace, which is executed in the style of flower motifs. It is done with the help of two tatting shuttles.

A scheme of the weaving of rings 1 and 9 5P5P10; rings 3, 5, 11, 13 are weaved 10P10; rings 7, 15 are done according to the scheme 10P5P5. Arches 2, 4, 6, 10, 12, 14 are weaved according to the scheme 3P3P3P3P3P3. The arc 8 is done 5P5. The second picot of rings 1 and 9 must be bigger than other picots, because according to a pattern it is the center of attachment for rings 3, 5, 7 and 11, 13, 15.

The process:

1. Let’s weave ring 1 and make a second picot of the ring larger than others and then flip it over.

2. Make arc 2, and in the process, a thread from ring 1 will be the leading one. Flip it over.

3. Let’s make ring 3 - a thread from the arc will be the leading one. Turn it over.

4. Weave arc 4 a thread from ring 3 will be the leading one. Turn it over.

5. Make ring 5 a thread from arc 4 will be the leading one. Turn it over.

6. Let’s make arc 6,and in the process, a thread from ring 5 will be the leading one. Flip it over.

7. Weave ring 7 a thread from arc 6 will be the leading one. DON’T flip it over - weave an arc 8 and after ring 9.

Next, repeat steps 2 7 as many times as needed.

Tatting: lace pattern 4A lace arc is suitable for the finishing of the bottom of a piece of clothing, sleeves, or even collars. The lace is made with the help of two tatting shuttles.

Rings 1, 8 and 15 are weaved 5P5P5P5. The remaining rings in the scheme are weaved 2P2P2P2. The distance between the small rings on the arch is equal to 3 double knots.

The process:

1. Let’s make ring 1 and flip it over.

2. Make ring 2, arc 3 (3 double knots), ring 4, arc 5, ring 6, arc 7 and then turn it all over.

3. Let’s make ring 8 a thread from arc 7 will be the leading one. Turn it over.

4. Make ring 9 a thread which is coming from ring 8 will be the leading one.

Next, repeat the pattern described in steps 2 4.
