I would like to present you the basic techniques of crocheting . Knowing these simple elements, you can crochet many things just being guided by crochet patterns. Before starting your first project, take a ball of yarn and a crochet hook, and practice by doing the following looping and crochet stitches . The moment you are able to do them without second thoughts any crochet patterns will be up to you.
1. The chain
Make an initial stitch by hand.
Place a loop on the hook.
Take a crochet hook with the loop in the right hand.
Hook the working thread and pull it through the previous loop.
You will receive a so-called chain of air loops. These loops are widely used either as a basis for work or to create the patterns.
2. A slip stitch
A slip stitch connects one part with another. You can also use a connecting stitch for the work completion or finishing edges.
Your work and a loop are in your right hand, and you hold the working thread with your left hand.
Put a crochet hook into the next loop of the previous row or into the initial loop of this row (if it is circular crocheting) and pull the thread through both loops.
3. Single crochet
Single crochet is a simple loop, which is commonly used in crocheting.
You have a working loop on your crochet hook.
Pass the crochet through the next loop of the bottom row.
Pull the working thread through the loop of the lower row.
There have been two loops on your crochet hook yet.
Pull the working thread through these two loops.
4. Semi-double crochet with a yarn over
Your work is in your right hand, and the working thread is in the left one.
In order to make a double crochet you need to:
Throw a working thread on the crochet hook. This is called a ` yarn over `.
Thread a crochet hook into the loop of the row below, which goes next after your working loop on the crochet hook.
Extend our working thread through this loop.
We have two loops and one yarnover on the crochet hook.
Then pull the thread through all the loops and the yarnover.
5. Double crochet
As usual, your work and a crochet hook are in the right hand, and your working thread is in the left hand.
Yarn our working thread over the crochet hook one time.
Thread the crochet hook into the next stitch of the bottom row and pull the working thread through it.
Two loops and one yarnover are on the crochet hook.
Now, pull our working thread through the first loop and the yarn over.
Now we have two loops on the crochet hook, so we pull our working thread through them.
6. Treble crochet
Treble crochet is done the same way as the previous one, except for the fact that there are two yarnovers.
Then the loops are crocheted twice (by two), the first loop is done with the first yarnover, the newly made loop - with the second yarnover, the next one - with the working loop.
The result is a high crochet stitch.
7. Quadruple crochet
This stitch is crocheted the similar way as the two previous types of crochet stitches.
However, three crochet yarnovers are done, and they are crocheted four times, accordingly.
The number of crochet yarnovers may be more, but the way they are done remains the same as for the previous crochet stitches.
These basic crochet techniques will be enough for the first time in order to make excellent works and master your skills. Crocheting is a very interesting hobby that can bring you joy and pleasure.
