Childs Knitted Sweater with Stripes

This Child's Knitted Sweater is to fit heights 92/98 cm/36 1/4/381/2 and 104/110 cm/41/39 1/4. Differing figures for the 2nd size are given after the hyphen. Easy-to knit blend yarn used for this fabulous striped sweater is very hard-wearing and will withstand frequent laundering.

Materials: Medium-weight yarn Schoeller/ Esslinger Eviva (50% cotton, 50% polyacrylic, 50 g/101 m/110 yds): 200-250 g white 01, 50 g each of turquoise 20, yellow 17, orange 16, red 03, and pink 15; INOX jiffy knitting needles 4 mm (US 6, UK 8), for borders 3.5 mm (US 4-5, UK 10-9); set of double-pointed knitting needles (dpn 3.5 mm (US 4-5, UK 10-9).

Borders: Garter stitch (G st) = K right and wrong side rows. When working in rnds. p 1 rnd and k 1 rnd alternately.

Stockinette stitch (St st): K right side rows and p wrong side rows. Gauge: 20 sts and 30 rows = 10 x 10cm/4x4 over St st. Stripe sequence: 4 rows white, 2 rows yellow, 4 rows white, 4 rows turquoise, 4 rows white, 2 rows yellow, 4 rows white, 2 rows orange, 4 rows while, 2 raws yellow, 4 rows white, 4 rows turquoise, 4 rows white, 2 rows yellow, 4 rows white, 8 rows orange, 4 rows white, 8-10 rows red, 4 rows white, 16-24 rows pink, 4 rows white, 8-10 rows red, 4 rows white = 106-118 rows.

Back: With white, cast on 74-78 sts. Work border for 7 rows (= 2 cm/ 3/2). Then work St st in stripe sequence as given. After 54- 64 rows (=18-21 cm/7-8 1/2 from border), place a marker on each side for armholes. After 46-48 rows (=15-16 cm/5 7/6-6 1/4 from marker), bind off center 18 sts for neck. Complete each side separately. At inside edge of every other row bind off 3 sts once and 2 sts once. After 52-54 rows (= 17-18 cm/63/4-7 from marker), bind off remaining 23-25 sts for shoulder. Front: Work as back, but for the lower neck bind off center 8 sts after 36-38 rows (= 12-13 cm/ 4 3/4 - 51/8 from marker). Complete each side separately. At inside edge of every other row bind off 3 sts once and 2 sts once. After 52-54 rows (= 17-18 cm/6 3/4-7 from marker), bind off remaining 23-25 sts for shoulder.

Sleeves: With white, cast on 42 sts. Work border for 7 rows (= 2cm/ 3/2). Then work St st in stripe sequence as given. Sleeve shaping: On each side, inc 1 st in 5th row from border. Then inc 1 st on each side ot every 6th row 5-8 times and every 4th row 8-7 times (= 70-74 sts). After 70-84 rows (= 23-28 cm/9-11 from border), bind off.

Finishing: Block pieces, dampen, and leave to dry. Sew seams foil diagram (figures = cm). Sew side seams to markings. With white and dpn, pick up 68 sts evenly around neck edge, Work border for 7 rnds (= 2 cm/ 3/4). Bind off knitwise. Set in sleeves.
