There is a great variety of knitting patterns . We will discuss the most famous patterns, which have always been popular. Knitting patterns are created by the method of knits and purls combination, as well as different knitting methods applied to them. There are increases and decreases of stitches, cross stitches, diagonal knitting and others. Further, we are going to review the knitting process for the following knitting patterns: braided knitting pattern, diamond pattern and airy pattern.
1. Braided Knitting Pattern
Braided knitting pattern is a showy pattern that will suit knitting of both female and male clothes. It is very simple and will be perfect for you if you are a beginner in knitting. Let’s start knitting.
Cast stitches on the needles so that the quantity of the cast stitches equals multiple of 6 and add 2 stitches for the symmetry and 2 edge stitches.
Row 1. Slip the 1st stitch and knit a rowof knitstitches .
Turn the work.
Row 2. Slip the 1st stitch. 1. A purl stitch, then *4 knits, 2 purls* (* - means to repeat the pattern)
Row 3. Slip the 1st stitch. 1. A knit stitch, then *4 purls, 2 knits*
The 4throw knitted as the 2ndand the 5thlike the 3rd.
Row 6. Take off the 1st stitch and knit a rowofpurls.
Row 7. Knit a row of knits like Row 1.
Row 8. Slip the 1st stitch. 2 knits, *2 purls, 4 knits* The last 3 stitches knit as follow: 2 knits, 1 purl.
Row 9. Slip the 1st stitch. 2 purls *2 knits, 4 purls* The last 3 stitches knit like this: 2 purls, 1 knit.
Row 8 = Row 10, and Row 9 = Row 11
Row 12 = Row 6
Further repeat from Row 1 till Row 12 up until you knit the desired length.
2. Diamond Knitting Pattern
Cast stitches with the quantity multiple of 4 plus 1 stitch for the symmetry and 2 edge stitches.
Row 1. Slip the 1st stitch. Then knit alternating 1 purl with 1 knit 2 times, then knit 1 purl. Go on until the end of the row. The last stitch knit as a knit. Turn the work.
Row 2 and all the next even rows knit this way: *1 knit, 1 purl* 2 times, then 1 knit stitch. Repeat this sequence till the end of the row and finish with a purl stitch.
Row 3. Slip the 1st stitch. *1 purl stitch, a knot out of 3 stitches, 1 purl*. The last stitch knit as a knit.
(To make a knot you will need to pull the working thread behind the 1st3 stitches on the left needle (between the 3rdand the 4thstitches on the left needle) Then put the pulled stitch on the left needle in front of other stitches and knit it as a knit. Then move 3 stitches from the left needle to the right one unknitted. Shift the stitch that you pulled out and knitted as a knit over 3 unknitted stitches on the right needle. The knot is ready.)
Row 5. Knit as Row 1.
Row 7. Slip the 1st stitch. Make a knot but pull the thread between the 2ndand the 3rdstitches on the left needle. Then repeat the following sequenceuntil the end of the row: *1 purl, a knot between the 3rdand the 4thstitches on the left needle*. The last 4 stitches of the row are knitted as 1 purl, a knot between the 2ndand the 3rdstitches, 1 knit.
Row 9. Knit as Row 1 and repeat all the rows until the 8th.
3. Airy Knitting Pattern
We will need to cast stitches with the quantity multiple of 4 plus 2 edge stitches.
Row 1. Slip the 1st stitch and knit a rowofpurlstitches.
Row 2. Slip the 1st stitch. Knit 5 knit stitches out of 1 stitch. Further, repeatthe following patternuntill the end of the row: knit 3 stitches together as a purl, yarn over, then knit 5 purls out of 1 and yarn over. Knit the last 3 stitches as a purl and yarn over.
Row 3. Slip the 1st stitch. Yarn over, knit as a purl 2 times yarn over and a stitch between them. Further repeat until the end of the row: yarn over, 5 stitches together as a knit through the back loop, then knit 2 times yarn over and a purl stitch between them. The last 5 stitches knit together as a knit and make yarn over.
Row 4. Slip the 1ststitch. Knitthe next 2 stitches together as a knit. Further repeat until the end of the row: knit 5 stitches out of 1, make yarn over, the next 2 times yarn over andknit togethera stitch between themas a purl. The last 2 stitches of the row you should knit like this: 5 stitches into the 1stone and the 2ndone knit as a knit.
Row 5. Slip the 1ststitch. Knit 1 knit, then the next 5 stitches knit as a knit through the back loop. Further repeat the sequence until the end of the row: make a yarn over, 2 times yarn over and a stitch between them knit together as a purl; make yarn over, 5 stitches yarn through back loops as a knit. Before the last 2 stitches make yarn over, and the last stitches knit together as a knit through front loops.
Row 6. Knit as Row 2 and repeat everything from Row 2 to Row 5.
