Materials: 3 white ready-made placemats with hemstitched hem. 45 x 35 cm/17 3/4 x 13 3/4. 10,5 fabric threads/FT to 1 cm/26 FT to 1 (Leibfreid art. 3006/09 Siebleinen);Anchor embroidery floss (Coats) or DMC Mouline (embroidery floss), 1 skein or scraps each in colors 1, 3, 5 to 10,12, and Has listed, see col. nos. in 1st/2nd place. Materials: 1 blue ready-made waffle-pique towel, 50 x 80 cm/19 3/4 x 31 1/2, with 2 Aida panels, 23 Aida blocks/AB = 5.5 cm/2 1/8 wide, 4 AB to 1 cm/10 AB to 1 (smyrnafix art. 5343/15); Anchor embroidery floss (Coats) or DMC Mouline (embroidery floss), 1 skein each in colors as listed, see col. nos. in 1st/2nd place. Instructions: Embroider motifs in Aida panels, centering embroidery. The center stitch is marked by an arrow in the PC. The ships correspond in height exactly to the width of an Aida panel. With 4 strands of floss, embroider each cross stitch over 1 AB. Work bottom stitches from lower left to upper right and top stitches in opposite direction. Center cloth with ships
90 x 90 cm/35 1/2 x 35 1/2, embroidery Ships each 158 x 42 stitches/42 x 11 1/4 cm/16 1/2 x 4 7/16, Wheel 38 x 38 stitches/ 10x10 cm/4 x 4. Pattern chart/PC and illustration on worksheet A. Materials: 1 white ready-made center cloth with woven stripes around edges, 90 x 90 cm/35 1/2 x 35 1/2, 7.5 fabric threads/FT to 1 cm/19 FT to 1 (Leibfried art. 7566/09 Rugen); Anchor embroidery floss (Coats) or DMC Mouline (embroidery floss), 1 (* = 2) skein each in colors 2,4, 6,8, 9, and 11 to 14 as listed, see col. nos. in 1st/2nd place. Instructions: Embroider ships on each side of cloth between woven stripes. Work embroidery following PC, beginning directly at woven stripes. Work the wheel in each corner square, spaced 4 FT from woven stripes. With 3 strands of floss embroider each cross stitch over 2 x 2 FT, following PC. Work bottom stitches from lower left to upper right and top stitches in opposite direction. Start and end threads by immediately hiding loose end under stitches of same color on back of work. With 2 strands of floss in porcelain blue, embroider contours and line details (see dashed lines in PC) in back stitch (see ill.) over 2 FT or 2 thread intersections. Press the finished embroidery from wrong side on a well-padded surface.
Lighthouse/A and sailboat/B 44 x 44 stitches/ 10x10 cm/4 x 4, anchor/C and life buoy/D 45 x 45 stitches/10 1/4 x 10 1/4 cm/4 x 4. Materials: For each motif: 20 x 20 cm/8 x 8 double thread cotton canvas, 44 thread pairs/TP to 10 cm/11 TP to 1; 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4 plywood, 6 mm/1/4 thick; 10 x10 cm/4 x 4 white construction paper; 45 cm/17 3/4 light blue satin ribbon, 6 mm/1/4 wide. Four self-adhesive picture hangers (Knorr); UHU all-purpose glue; DWC Laine Colbert tapestry wool, 1 skein or scraps in each of the colors listed in the key (for requirements per motif see columns A to D). The motifs are also available as kits from needlecraft shops. Each kit comes complete with canvas, tapestry wool, pattern chart, and instructions (DMC art. C956K Lighthouse Gulls, C958K Sailboat, C957K Anchor and C955K Life Buoy Fish). Instructions: Secure raw edges of canvas with masking tape to prevent yarn from snagging on the canvas. Position motifs 5 cm/2 from left and lower edges. Work half cross stitch following PC and ill. Work darker colors first, then the lighter ones. Start and end threads by immediately darning in end on back of work. Block finished embroidery, face down, exactly at right angles, dampen, and leave to dry. Trim excess canvas to 3 cm/1 1/8 from embroidery.
Stretch each motif over a plywood square. Glue excess canvas in place on back and conceal with construction paper. Glue satin ribbon in place over edge of plywood all round. Turn under end of ribbon and glue in place. Stick picture hanger to back.
